Each year social workers celebrate their profession during March,
which is National Professional Social Work Month. The theme for
this year was Building on Strengths which focused on
the connections social workers provide daily. Those areas of strength
can be comprised of home, health, family, friends, and communities.
In observance of Social Work Month, Lifeline Chaplaincy hosted
a Houston luncheon to show our appreciation to hospital social workers
who assist us in helping patients through our Compassionate Touch
Program. The luncheon was held at the University of Texas Medical
School Building in the Texas Medical Center on March 24th. Several
of our staff members were on hand to greet and honor the social
workers who were in attendance. We recognize that strength is the
key to an individuals physical, mental and emotional well-being.
Lifelines Compassionate Touch Program is proud to be part
of a community who partner with social workers to promote strength
within patients, families, and caregivers.
Last year, Compassionate Touch helped nearly 1,700 patients with
funding totaling over $208,000 in the Houston and Dallas area hospitals.
Major areas of assistance were in hotel stays, parking assistance,
and other non-medical needs. It was the teamwork of the Houston
and Dallas area social workers, our generous donors, and Compassionate
Touch who made it all possible. We truly are grateful for the many
social workers across the country, who help to provide resources
and support to those who are in need.
